Outreach at St. Luke's:

The one outreach activity St. Luke’s is most well known for is as a site for THE GATHERING. The Gathering is an organization formed in Milwaukee more than 15 years ago to provide meals to the community. In 1992, St. Luke ’s became a meal site here in Whitewater. We now serve two meals per month, the last day of each month and the first day of the next month. Typically, people on fixed incomes and or government assistance, run out of funds by the end of the month, so these free meals are offered for sustenance, nourishment and community for folks in the area. The average attendance is about 35 people per meal, and this rises during the winter when the need is greatest.  We even take meals to Brookdale Manor on appointed Saturdays.

A large number of St. Luke’s members have maintained this important ministry for more than ten years.

It is a truly ecumenical outreach ministry now, with over five other churches and service organizations volunteering as cooks and servers and clean up help each month. Food is donated from a variety of sources. The ministry is funded by The Crop Walk, personal donations, St. Luke's and other churches.

Campus Ministry is extended to students at UW-Whitewater through the cooperative Lutheran Episcopal Campus Ministry. There is a Wednesday evening free spaghetti supper at the Little House on Prairie site: 344 N. Prairie St. Phone 473-5555. College students regularly come for worship and fellowship at St. Luke’s.  During the school year we sponsor a free College Student Gathering Meal (see calendar for dates and times).

We also support Bethel House, a long term shelter for families in transition in Whitewater. Charley Terry is currently representing us on the Bethel House board, and we provide both financial and volunteer help to this important ministry in our community.

Relay for Life is very active in Whitewater, and St. Luke’s has a history of good participation in fundraising for cancer research through Relay events.

St. Luke’s members support the Food Pantry by generous donations of food and cash to ensure that there is adequate food for people in need. The Food Pantry is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to Noon at the Old Armory in Whitewater.

Meals On Wheels is another community program supported by St. Luke's.

We are always looking for new ways to serve God’s people through Outreach ministries at St. Luke’s.
